Ductile iron has good mechanical properties. In some cases pieces made by casting of ductile iron replace forging pieces.

Normally high strength parts originally manufactured by forging are replaced only for austempered ductile iron. If we forge a ductile cast iron, we will going to change the form and distribution of graphite nodules, affecting homogeneity and mechanical properties like ductility, impact strength, UTS and YS.
