I am using a Windows 10 computer and have installed VMD 1.9.4a53 since it is 64-bit and allows for larger simulation files to be loaded without crashing. However, is it faster to use bigdcd when performing analysis? Or is it faster to load a large trajectory and then perform the analysis? I have found some scripts online to perform RMSD, RMSF, etc. analysis, but the scripts are written to load the psf and dcd file, and then begin performing analysis once all frames have been loaded. The process of loading the dcd file (100 ns simulation) takes around 2 hours. Would it be faster to adapt the analysis scripts to use bigdcd instead? My understanding is bigdcd only loads one frame at a time, but I am not sure if the process of loading one frame at a time is faster or if it simply allows for larger trajectories to be analyzed without overwhelming VMD/the computer memory.
