In ResearcherGate, articles are recommended and the author gets some points. For an article to be recommended, the person recommending it has found it interesting. He may not cite the article. An article is cited if it contained the contibution relevant to your work. So, which should be used to evaluate the contribution of a researcher?
Dear Peter Isah Akubor Absolutely, number of citations can be used to measure the scientific and research reputation of the researchers. Whereas, number of recommendations is not a considered criteria.
The "RG Score", calculated by RG on the basis of citations, "reads", questions, answers and recommendations, should not be considered very seriously. It is an invention by RG and is not used outside RG. RG calculates also other scores like the h-index and "Research Interest", another invention by RG. You may look at these numbers for each RG member. However, all these scores are only a very rough estimate. I am convinced that the contribution of a researcher to science cannot be expressed by a single number, and in many cases these numbers are misleading.
