When you are running a regression, often the dependent variable can have a separate effect on one or more of hte independent variables (endogeneity). One way of correcting for this is to replace the offending independent variable with an instrument that is correlated with the independent variable but can only affect the dependent variable through the omitted independent variable. However, finding a good instrument is always a challenge. Is it better to use a weak instrument or to do nothing at all?
