It is quite natural, indeed. I don't know the exact psychological explanation. Scholars have their research findings. But I think, the real wisdom, rationality and magnanimity is fully on possession of our creator. HE, the Exalted in Might, said: And he to whom We grant long life We reverse in creation; so will they not understand? Ya-Sin:68.
That's a deep question - as the old song goes "The fundamental things apply, as time goes by".

Its universal truth that every thing goes toward stability. At child hood or younger age, the human is so energetic that they may happy to revolve around the circle but with low or less bound. At elder age they have less energy, so they comes near to universal nucleus for stability.
My enjoyment of nature is about the same and I have little memory of and no desire to return to my native place (Lübeck). Even the place (Winnipeg) I moved to at a young age and mostly grew up in doesn't have that much attraction for me anymore. Too much has changed and too many people have moved away or died — as they say, a nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.
