A large number of Lecturers and Assistant Professors in the universities have pumped up their Impact factor by writing review article (cut-paste, rephrase strategy). Some have 60-70 review articles under their name while they just completed their PhDs. How one can judge their scientific abilities, innovative mind and contribution to science while they have 2-3 research papers and 4-5 citations but sure their Impact factor is in 100s and some have 500. Any other alternative measures that will be required to judge the scientific abilities of scientists.
Dr. Qadri. Excellent question. Impact factor should be for original research papers only. Those invited issues are mostly fraud and scientific scam. Generally the publisher will ask the guest editor or general editor and then they will accept any reviews by local internally review process initiated their friends and charge 1500-2000 US dollars for publication. I have been approached several times by guest editors mostly Indians and on occasion by Chinese and Pakistani and I refused to put any review for the payment of 1500-2000 dollars. Good scientists should condemn such practices of editors and publishers and should remove them from scientific community.
