Is Artificial Intelligence safe to employ as a guide to explore
the world?

I think all human creations, physical creations fall into the category "art".
Consider however that physical existence entails also, universally, the non-physical: Time-space theory relates change to the properties of space by matter, a radio transmitter produces radio wave, it causes radio waves as an effect.
Consider an architectural structure; is it also true that along with the physical structure there is an effect, albeit it may reside only within the mind.
Consider secondly a building in which divides/walls are made of, other than physical materials, but spaces divided by other means such as magnetic forces able to control the climate of rooms within it individually, a building without walls in which an invisible maze exists that is extra to ordinarily experienced nature. Might it be possible for a computer to produce such a functional design, yet only the physical computer apparatus might exist to occupy the dimensions of the spaces projected by its' computations.
Stephen Hawkins has continually warned of artificial intelligence that overcomes to rule its creator, in a second step it might be possible to project that the term "overcomes" is inappropriate; rather the computer, though an extension of the human mind, is capable to 'think' only and exclusively referring to itself and not its' creating hand. I think "space", other than solely a matter of number, amount, distance and order, entails also the place in which referring witness exists, exact identity. The creation of an art work and its creators hand are inseparable regarding its' effects.

Indeed it is safe. Right now we humans are the guides, if we guide it to be used for drones for war , than it is our control where we use it. We can use same drone for helping people during diaster.
@Mahmood This is a thoughtfull answer. Perhaps I shold clarify what I mean by artificial intelligence, I am not referring to computers, they are always important tools. Artificial intelligence I infer refers to the employment of amounts vastly in excess of those related to witness observation such that computers appear to 'think'. Numbers beyond what can be catalogued to exist. A computer run drone does not qualify in my view as an artificial intelligence device. I secondly believe that non peacefull purposes of technology will ultimately ruin without question. I personally do not see how such a change would occur in time as needed but the processess of military agression to solve problems have absolutely to be abandoned. Artifical intelligence as I am describing has additional catastophy potential that is even more absolute.
Mankind's development of artifacts is an example of mankind's intelligence. Mankind's intelligence as it is as it has been ontologically portrayed through time and space has been a construction of a self that has not transcended mankind's own world. I do not see how artificial intelligence can be a guide for improvement
I wrote in many studies that artificial intelligence does not exist! In neurophysiological (and psychological) terms, intelligence is related to Understandig; the computer does not understand. Somebody gave me a contra-argument: "A computer won a contest and reached a large amount of money!". I asked him:" And how did he use them"? I prefer to remain to the more adequate notion of Informatic Technology (IT)
We can make computers with sensors. But we cannot make sensors that feel because what we know in neurology is only acorrelation with what we experience, the experience itself is the experience of the mind.
I think that Dan is right by saing that that the computer does not understand. However, an artificial replica of a neural network can almost certainly run out of control with dire consequences of what it is in control of.
