By ToE I presume that you mean a 'Theory of Everything'?

This phrase has been bandied around for some time and has few clear definitions. Your comments about the state of the world and humanity's place in it are, I suggest, soluble by very conventional if unpopular means.

Simply put, humanity at its present rate of growth, for its present rates of consumption, with present levels of efficiency, is not likely to sustain itself for another century or so.

I list three points above (population, demand, efficiency) which all can be tackled without recourse to exotic physics.

As for needing calculus, yes, it's a basic tool in the toolbox of physics - if someone tells you that it takes years to learn, they're blowing smoke. Granted, you won't be performing integrals over n-dimensional surfaces in an afternoon, but a few weeks with a tutor or a friend will give you the fundamentals.

Patience. Nothing worthwhile is ever achieved without effort and there are no real short-cuts to where you want to be. Study hard, work harder, follow your dreams and you will achieve.

Differentiation is taking the difference between two things when they are points on

a line, and those points are very close together. Eventually the two points become

one point, but the difference is still the same, it is the slope of a line at a point

on the graph of that line expressed as an equation. It is just Slope, the rise divided by the run. In Science, it is important to know how quickly something is changing

at a specific point, or at a specific time (slope at a point) on the graph.

Integration finds the area under a graph between X=0 and X = equation,

between two points on that graph ( between (x1,y1), and ,(x2,y2) ).

For a graph of x = constant, the height is a constant of the top minus the bottom,

that is the constant minus zero between x1, and x2, It is always a rectangle.

For the graph of y= x The integral is the triangle, or trapezoid between x=0 and x=y,

between X1, and y1. notice the relationship here the area under a straight line is

1/2 .

The integral of X^1 = 1 / (1+1) X^ ( 1+1) = 1/2 X^2

The integral of X^2 = 1/ (2+1) X ^ (2+1) or 1/3 X^3

Mathematics has patterns, frequently it has repeating patterns, as it has in

Fibonacci Numbers especially as the ratio of Fibonacci numbers become very large,

then they approach the number for the Golden Ratio.

0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34, 55, 89, .........

In this sequence The mathematical ratio of ( n+1) / n oscillates above

and below the golden ratio getting closer and closer to the golden ratio.

The Math ratio starts at infinity, plunges to 1/1 = 1, jumps up to 2/1 = 2,

drops to 3/2 = 1.5, then 5/3, 8/5, 13/8, 21/13, 34/21, 55/34, 89/55, ..........

The Fibonacci number make ratios that are mathematical approximations

of the golden ratio, and they tend to get closer and close to it as these

Fibonacci number grow larger and larger.

As for a Hydrogen generator, use solar energy to split water into Hydrogen and Oxygen, compress both and let them recombine (burn them) to release energy

to provide propulsion. It is a closed system. You begin and end with water, and no

CO2, no burning of Hydro carbons.

Next, spend about $15 on a copy of "3000 Solved Problems in Physics" by Alvin Halpern. The book is masterpiece of problem-based instruction; the problems start stupid-easy and gradually add complexity. Before you know it, you will be able to tackle difficult physics in many areas. The trick is to cover each answer and not peek until you have at least tried for a few minutes. It will amaze you how many you get right the first time and how quickly your knowledge develops. By the time you have worked all 3000 problems, you will be ready for many advanced physics textbooks and even ready to do real work with your new skills.

The Calculus is important for a lot of physics as it gives you the area under curves where algebra gives you the area under a lot of straight lines, or inside simple shapes.

Learning physics will be a lot easier after learning the math methods that make

the physics simpler.

I strongly believe that the emphasis should be on mathematical physics. If the math does not add up, then we cannot have a proof of concept, and every insane theory was once disproved by math, until it found a workaround.

Understanding mathematics is the way to understand the cosmos. It is the way through which we communicate with the universe; with ourselves.

Hence, being fundamentally strong in mathematical physics is crucial to develop a ToE.
