I want to extract DNA from a wastewater sample coming from a wastewater treatment plant. Sample collection site might be primary clarifier, final clarifier and chlorine disinfectant water, Sample might be full of different type of microorganisms and Algae. I want to recover as much genetic information. any information in best kits available or manual procedure?
May be first you can grow bacterial colonies on agar then isolate bacteria and then extract DNA. What is your question actually?? Do you want to extract DNA from bacteria present in wastewater??

I am planning to filter water-sample and extract total DNA directly from the filter by washing it with TE( Let me know if you have any idea what type of filter would be best! If you have any paper you can suggest me).

Thank you for the paper attachment. Rather then parasite and fungi I am interested in isolation of bacterial DNA: ESBL.

For extracting DNA you should include those from proozoa and cysts with thick walls that not always release DNA. Therefore, its appropriate to use techniques based on chaotropic agents like Guanidium isothiacyanide (for automatization robots one can use EsayMag robot or similar). Always include before extraction a control to assess DNA yield.
