To give some background, I have had papers rejected before, so it is not something new. But this one stung a little. After meticulously correcting the comments of the reviewers from the first submission, the editor rejected the paper during the SECOND submission, citing a reason given by one reviewer which I feel has been addressed in the paper and in the 'detailed response to reviewers'.
Is there still hope to pursue this by writing to the editor, or will it be a futile struggle?
Advise from editors/reviewers or own experience is greatly appreciated. Thank you!
Well, it really depends on the journal. Please refer to author guidelines: Journals usually say one of two things:
- Rejection decisions are final and will not be reconsidered by editors.
- For rebutals of rejection decisions, please contact ..... @ ....
If you have a strong desire to publish in that journal specifically, you can send a rebutal email after checking author guidelines whether they consider them. Otherwise, why not consider another choice?
Thank you Abdelrahman for the feedback. Yes I think the next best thing is go to another journal. But the fact that it was rejected in the second round of review for an arguable reason was why I am considering rebuttal.
It seems that being rejected in the second review process is rather rare (unless all comments were not addressed properly). Just curious if you have had or know anyone else with the same issue.
I think it is better to submit To another journal. The paper usually get mature & ready for resubmission after being peer reviewed. Submit to another journal. Good luck.
