The synthesis of silver nanoparticles mediated plant extracts can generate a system composed of silver and silver chloride nanoparticles on the basis of the powder x-ray diffractogram.
Are these two systems independent or is it a core-shell type system?How do we prove? What should be the mechanism of formation of the obtained silver chloride nanoparticles?
I have several thoughts on this. They are independent processes, one involves reduction and the other plain precipitation. Things that could happen are: silver nanoparticles are produced by reduction and silver ions are adsorbed on the surface, silver chloride crystals are formed and they act as surface for silver reduction to occur, and silver nanoparticles are produced and the surface favors silver chloride precipitation.
