The increase in groundwater under coastal airport can cause problems to infrastructures of the airport and can attract birds if ponds are created. Hence some management options are needed.
I agree with Bayan but would add too that depending on the layout, it could be worth trying to intercept and divert groundwater up-gradient of the site by a system of interceptor trenches or French drains.
Thanks Bayan & George. The current situation doesn’t allow for trenches and the current wells have maximum yield that is less than 10% of recharge rate!
By groundwater contamination management philosophy, preventing contaminant is better than remediation. For the proposed management of the groundwater system, lowering the water table will be a good option, particularly by well dewatering technique.
