According to my observation, most of our research does not work for society. I think when start working on any subject, the researcher should make sure that his research would be utilized for the betterment of society.

Look at it from the future point of view. Let's assume that all research will sooner or later become a learning material for AI scientist. Then both useful and useless research will be valuable and hopefully for the society. Ours or theirs :)
