Polymer wax is a synthetic compound of polyethylene oligomer C30-C70. It is obtained by the Fischer-Tropsch method from synthesis gas. Depending on the molar mass, such an oligomer can have a variety of fluidity, melting point and a variety of applications.
Besides lower molecular weight, PP wax is usually atactic - active sites of heterogeneous ZN catalysts producing low molecular weight chains are also less stereospecific ones.
Basically, PP is H(CH2CH2CH2)n - CH2CH2CH3. when n= 0, it is proplylene and it is a gas; n= 2, it is hexane and it is liquid; when n >~7, it become a soft solid and can be used as wax.
If a branch structure is existing in the structure, the melting point of PP will decrease. For example, linear PP when n=7 is in solid state but branch PP with n=7 is still in liquid state.
Basically, PP polymer and PP wax is different mainly in its molecular weight and minorly in its structure.
Difference in their molecular structure ,lower the molecular weight having high mobility as Polymer wax but when polymerised higher nos say n times becomes rigid and high MP .
