Oxygen reduction reaction kinetic is faster in alkaline medium compared to acidic medium. Many non-precious catalysts are very active in alkaline medium compared to in acidic medium. So people started using alkaline medium.
The alkaline media confers reduced adsorption energies of anions. According to the
Nernst equation, the working potential of electrochemical processes in aqueous media shifts by ‒59 mV, equivalent to a weakening of adsorption energy of 0.059 eV for a monovalent anion, for every increase of 1 pH unit per increase (Xiaoming et al., 2015)
which controls any electrochemical reaction is overpotential. The smaller overpotential is preferable. Therefore, overpotential of oxygen reduction in basic medium may be small.
i did CV experiment to study ORR .I supply air as source of oxygen and nitrogen on separate run as inert.TWO CV curves attached image below , are different but i didn't observe any peak .Anyone who help me to conclude this data .
I asked several questions to the commenters, Bapi, Antonio, and Mosaad. None of you replied. Why you did not defend your answers? In my opinion your answers were incorrect.
