I am facing a problem with SAS 9.2 where I can't import any Excel file, be it by using the code for import or by clicking on the Import tab from the Wizard. It's been there for a while and I can't seem to know how to fix it. This is odd given that I used to import all files without having any issues.
Try importing csv files or convert that excel file into some older version of excel file format.
Did you or your IT department change the file directory names or move the files? Try going to the data file, and copy the path name. Paste into SAS and try running.
If this does not work, post the SAS code so that we can all look at it.
Some people have data sets with thousands or hundreds of thousands of records. Having the data as part of the program is not workable.
If the Excel file is not reading properly, you could save the worksheet as a csv file and use the infile and input statements. Something like this:
Data mydata;
infile 'C:\Users\mydata.csv' dsd missover firstobs=2 delimiter=',' end=last;
length insectno$ 20 waveform$ 10 dur 8; *specifies record lengths for reading text variables;
input insectno$ waveform$ dur; *creates variable names for input. The $ character tells SAS to treat these variables as characters even if they look like numbers;
firstobs=2 might have to be changed depending on how many rows of non-data you have. The only thing with this approach is that you have to type in all the variable names in the input statement in exactly the same order as they appear in the data file. This can be a pain if you have a long list of variables..
Thank you all. It appears that SAS 64 bit is not compatible with Excel 32 bit. That was the problem. I started working on csv files and it is much better! Thanks again.
