We are studying the feasibility of using rumble strips to reduce the ROR accidents in Chile. We are looking for research and standards in Europe, South America and Oceania about this device.
Languages may be misleading, including variants of English across US/UK/AUS... In addition rumble strips may be transverse/longitudinal or centreline/shoulder. Nevertheless "rumble strip" is mainly an American term. Outside of US, various other terms are used, using variations of words such as audible, audio-tactile, raised profile, etc. In Czech, transverse rumble strips are called "optical psychological brake" (probably from German "optische Bremse"). So when searching something, one has to think of all the possibilities :-)
I have a lit review on that from 2012. Australian state road agencies will have design guide supplements for this as well. It's a very popular treatment.
At the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute we have performed some research concerning rumble strips in our driving simulator, these results are published in english.
We have also performed a study on a real highway. Regretfully these results are only available in Swedish (The last link)
