Hello Nima - In the Australian context 'postgraduate' study would tend to relate to Honours and Masters level study and be distinguished from higher degree research or doctoral study - so between undergraduate and Ph.D. study!

I am not sure if your question relates to the assessment of students' READINESS to undertake Honiours/Masters study or assessment of the OUTCOMES of their work at Honours or Masters Level. There are clear published criteria for the latter incorporating AQF (Australian Qualifications Framework) expectations.

I expect that you probably are thinking in terms of 'readiness'. There will be variability around whether postgraduate students have undertaken original research in their undergraduate degrees. As Medhat implies, most Honours and Masters programs will incorporate a form of 'research methods' preparation. This will include 'how to' work on things like undertaking literature reviews, methodology options, ethical issues and data analysis. Quality, organization and coherence of written communication is also clearly crucial. Assessments of students' capacity to undertake Honiurs and Masters work will look at students' prior academic track record and will always benefit from a face-to-face conversation with the student to assess their initial thinking and motivation.

A post graduate should be a Master in at least one topic and should be able to do self learning after that .

In South Africa, we have the National Qualification Framework (NQF) with the highest level being a doctorate at NQF10. There are competencies and learning outcomes that should be met by a student to be deemed competent at any level.

One may want to throw in the Bloom's Taxonomy, though mostly used in creating learning outcomes and content development. I opine that the instrument can be used to develop assessments together with the NQF.

According to my personal opinion and through my experience in teaching and supervising graduate students at the College of Basic Education in the specialty of teaching methods, we rarely receive a graduate student at the master’s degree who is ready to write the thesis with the utmost professionalism. Teaching, so we start with them from the zero stage to make them professional researchers in the field of specialization.

The performance academically is on the average

Assessment of students' level in postgraduate studies depends on activities such as preparing and presenting the scientific report or on discussion and quizzes

Assessment of postgraduate students should be based on empirical research at regular interval

Post Graduate in Nigeria refers to Post Graduate Diploma (Qualifying Certificate for Master Degree) Masters or PhD students. Assessment can take place in different forms. It could be through discussion, oral or written examination; supervision, practicum, seminar presentation or thesis. On a general note, performance is low because of distraction, economic challenges, insecurity and many other challenges threatening the entire Country -Country.
