The scenario is that I have two wireless routers. I am connected to the first subnet and downloading a file (for instance) from the internet. I want to shift my connection from the first to the second subnet using the linux terminal. In short, it is a mobility scenario. Any suggestions?
Sounds like you'd be changing your IP (v4, v6?) address in mid-connection. That's been frowned on in IPv4. My suggested starting point would be to look at Mobile IP solutions, of which there are a few freely available Unix implementations. Good luck.
Sir thank you for your prompt response. Let me be more specific :) . I'm using Shim6 for mobility management protocol. It has its own mechanism for switching, but i want to trigger the switching myself from one Subnet to other Subnet. I have written my function in C implementation which is to be called from Shell script. This is the point where i'm stuck. One solution i think is to give static IPv6 addresses to both router and then assign the second router's address when switching is to be made?

It seems you are asking about hand-off. What you are doing is impossible if you do not have two wireless cards. If you have two wireless routers, each one will operate in different channel. at any moment your wireless card works in only one channel. So you cannot switch from one channel into another channel (hand-off) without interrupting your file download
Yes the hand-off. You are right about two wireless cards, but if you use virtual machine configured (using bridged networking) on physical system then that behaves like a physical system. You can add more wireless cards and you play with more then one wireless card.
