Privatize the school. That was just a quip. Some teachers believe that they are good in subject and teaching students successfully since several years and don't need any training. Being Permanent employees of a public owned setup and specially if from backward classes they think it is not necessary to participate in training programs. If they have to spend money for such training programs they wont like to do so. Most modern schools and universities have built in annual performance evaluation system that has considerable portion devoted to initiate upgrading skills attending training programs and contribute to schools events and administrative works. Some teachers feel they are the best and secure attending training would mean they are novices. In periodic class feedback for a course such teachers normally get good ratings from students and assume they know all. many teachers use internal grades as tool to intimidate students to give good ratings as unofficially they know who has given poor ratings to them
It is basically safety and security of job that makes them bold to refuse training sessions.
Institute should create a positive quality oriented culture where people who are more active in training and research programs are brought forward and awarded. Last resort to to warn them of freezing of increments and disobedience of orders as training is essential component as per new education policy too.
The problem is we cant display the annual feedback of a teacher to others or on notice board as it is individual basis .But principal or dean can certainly make notes in personal file which may impact their increments, promotion and may even endanger their jobs.
If a public teacher does not receive any training, there are various strategies that can be applied to ensure his effectiveness and progress in professional development: 1. **Independent learning and professional development**: - Teachers can use online resources, courses and webinars that they are available for free or at low prices. For example, platforms like Coursera, edX or edutube offer different courses for teachers. - It is recommended that teachers proactively research new teaching methods and technologies that can improve their teaching. 2. **Collaboration with colleagues**: - Teachers can organize and participate in informal teams or workshops with colleagues. Exchanging experiences and teaching methods can be very useful. - Mentoring and peer support can help teachers develop new skills and improve their approach to teaching.
