I need -40 degree centigrade temperature in my experiment. I am using ice bath of ice and Calcium chloride Hexa-hydrate. What are the safety issues and Precautions using this kind of ice bath.

In answer to Bill Belanger, NaCl/ice and CaCl2/ice are traditionally used to create low temperatures by causing the ice to melt (freezing point depression) thus requiring enthalpy to be extracted from the system. These are known as freezing mixtures.

The main safety issue is one of tissue damage due to frostbite, which will be very rapid in direct contact with such a mixture. Eye protection for sure, and suitable gloves.

If it is a large bath (say more than a liter), an apron might also be advisable as protection, particularly for the gentlemen in the lab.
Also, ensure your co-workers are aware with the low temperatures.
