i think your meaning of "short and long end" is "short and long pitch ".

it's depends on no. of pole.

for less no. of pole short pitch is suitable and for More no. of pole long pitch is suitable .

Thanks dear....can you explain a little more that how short pitch it more suitable for less no. of poles and i was concerned about the winding ends. how do we decide that the winding end is/should be long or short?
