Have the synthesized compounds been purified?

I have synthesized the methylcellulose using both commercial cellulose (microcrystalline cellulose) and isolated-cellulose from biomass. But, the results were similar, had no main peaks at ~950 cm^-1.

What does purified means as you suggest?
