You question itself provides an answer. Go for slightly larger then 12 Hp engine.

Dear sir, the word larger carries the value of lot of things.

That means 12.1 HP is also larger and 40HP, 100 HP , 150 HP all are comes under that word.

I'm asking the optimum range of diesel engine HP to match the practical 12 HP Genset/ Pump/ blower/ compressor.

I want to add something more to you to think. What ever the load like Genset or pump or blower or compressor, if we are going to connect the electric motor means we want to connect the 1.2 to 1.4 times HP power of the actual load. 12HP load needs 1.4*12HP~ 15HP motor. If

we start the electric motor by star delta concept means 13.5 HP is enough for the 12HP load.

But the diesel engine does not have similar efficiency like electric motor. So now what is the optimum range to choose the diesel Engine.
