I am writing a dissertation on the use of literary texts (particularly, short stories, poems and drama) to teach English as a Foreign Language and I still lack sources on practical activities.
Well, this area is very interesting! And there're millions of resources out there that would help you with this. As far as I'm concerned, I used to employ technology-based activities: (1) online learning using YouTube; (2) Blogging; (3) Shared reading; (4) Reciprocal teaching; (5) Collaborative writing using Wikis; (6) Story-Time activities; and (7) Flipped classrooms.
As a general note: In reality, perhaps there is nothing called "literary activities" or "activities related to LITERATURE"! But - in ELT terms, all teaching/learning activities that would: (1) engage learners; (2) stimulate them to think; (3) involve them in CRITICAL THINKING; (4) add FUN and humour; and (5) help them to consolidate linguistic concepts will be useful to learners. Best wishes...Mahmoud
In creating texts, Biography is a great tool. Biography is a literary genre, which allows subjetivism, fantasy, artistic creativity together with historical sources. It helps discovering self identity by confronting to the related life of the chosen character. Furthermore, Biography includes cultural, social, historical and geographical contexts, It can be exploited as reading material as much as composition object. Besides, activities can be done by each student or in a cooperative methodology.
