I am taking Edu 831 (Learning theories), it involves article critique on use of different learning theories in research. How can I critique an article effectively and what does it involve?
Dear Leah,
I strongly recommend you to analyze at least four or five critique articles (most cited or relevant in your study field).
You can also develop a pros-cons analysis to identify challenges, opportunities and common lacks regarding the learning theories. I used to review the future works or research directions proposed by review papers to create a main idea about the critique focus.
You need to take into account the regional context of each research approach. The learning processes depend on many social-economic factors as well.

I think, the critique should be made based on the criteria offered by the course teacher. However, knowing the different theories is the base for you to understand the nature of each theory and how that can be applied. You can understand the features of three basic learning theories from this material.
