Different configurations of Induction Generators are being used for the generation of power. When IG is operated as a self excited mode, then it have poor voltage & frequency regulation and lower power factor. How we can improve the power factor of Self Excited Induction Generator.
When induction generator, is self excited, means It draw the magnetizing current from the mains. At lower speed(less negative slip) the out put power would be less, the effect of magnetizing current, would be dominant, though power factor would be leading, but no much improved,and voltage regulation would be poor too. With increased, negative slip the power factor can be improved,and could be achived by changing(reducing)the rotating field speed. which could be achieved by changing the winding to increased poles(more than existed poles) at lower speed which will improve power factor and will give better voltage regulation at same power output(due to increased negative slip at same speed by reduced rotating field speed).

Capacitor bank is a good option for improve the power factor...
