Water in among the green house gases. They play role in increasing the temperature.Question is how these vapors can lower the temperature despite of the fact these are among the green house gases.
Water vapor is the most powerful greenhouse gas."The difference in an atmosphere with a strong water vapor feedback and one with a weak feedback is enormous,“Water vapour is the most important greenhouse gas. This is part of the difficulty with the public and the media in understanding that 95% of greenhouse gases are water vapour. The public understand it, in that if you get a fall evening or spring evening and the sky is clear the heat will escape and the temperature will drop and you get frost. If there is a cloud cover, the heat is trapped by water vapour as a greenhouse gas and the temperature stays quite warm. Water vapor is known to be Earth’s most abundant greenhouse gas, but the extent of its contribution to global warming has been debated. Using recent NASA satellite data, researchers have estimated more precisely than ever the heat-trapping effect of water in the air, validating the role of the gas as a critical component of climate change.
water vapor is an important GHG. It regulates clouds and thus albedo, meaning the reflection of sun light back into space / absorption within the atmosphere and conversion to infra-red (warmth).
