Thanks Richard and Christian, but what kind of informations are possible to be extracted from images in frequency domain. Is it so that what can be done in spatial domain, that can also be done in frequency domain? Then what is the advantage/disadvantage of using images in frequency domain?
The main advantages of the frequency domain are related to denoising procedures and pattern and period identification. Roughly, there are some properties of the images or time series that become more easy to read and to select. Time domain is more straightforward but sometimes hides some useful information. For hydrological time series see http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0309170807001066 or https://www.researchgate.net/publication/223666057_The_relation_between_periods_identification_and_noises_in_hydrologic_series_data. I am less familiar with images but i know many things can be done.

Thanks Christian and Richard. Richard, can you elaborate more on what kind of geological structure you have extracted through frequency domain image analysis? If possible, can you provide any document related to your work?
