I am conducting research on heavy metal contaminated groundwater remediation using nZVI, a batch lab experiment using the stock solution will be done but I want to design a laboratory-scale pilot to simulate the real conditions of in situ remediation how can I do it???
Notice: my aim is to study process parameters not the nzvi transportation

Sorbents with nano-sized pores are used for water purification. Then, in the space between the sorbent granules, large particles are retained, and heavy metal ions in the pores. With nanoparticles, you make the water even dirtier.
For purification of treatment waters from micro and nano particles, a flocculant ferric sulfate is used.

Laboratory scale evaluations can often be misleading due to differences in scale of relationships and geochemical/biogeochemical conditions. I suggest that you be very careful in evaluating the actual location of the proposed remediation to make sure that you understand the various other demand factors that can compete with your proposed remedy. I have seen multiple sites where the non contaminant demand was significantly underbudgeted (chemically) and led to significant additional mass of treatment material being required at substantial additional expense. This is most important when slurry methods via drilling are being used for the installation.
A rigorous box model on paper first can be of great help in remediation planning. Then likely a laboratory scale model would be at least mesocosm scale and often that 's best done in a portion of the actual project site due to cost reasons if the logistics allow. The difficulty with the laboratory scale model is duplicating the site conditions and eliminating variables, so to minimize errors it's often more practical to go out and use a small section of the site. Either way it is critical to understand the conditions and to take control of the system to get the desired results.
