I am trying to calculate the mutual inductance between two misaligned RECTANGULAR coils using COMSOL. I need to associate the current direction which is perpendicular to the cross sectional area of the coils shown in Fig. 1. How I can set a cross-sectional area similar to that presented in Fig.2? the generation of the rectangular coils in COMSOL is done as in the attched mph file.

you need an internal boundary in the coils so you can specify the inlet and outlet of the current in the coil sub-node (see attached). Also you need to add a initial step in the solver to solve the current direction in each coil of your model (see attached).

Many thanks for your answer and clarification. I am using COMSOL 5.2, where the options of coils are either Single-Turn coli or Multi-turn coil. I have selected the Multi-turn coil and then "User Defined Coil Geometry". With this option, the input/output is specified by vector e_coil as shown in the attached figure. I have a problem in selection this vector. Several selection have led to zero magnetism i.e. there is no current flow through the coils.

if you want to use current flow direction using a vector you need to use the right local coordinate system. You can either calculate it analytically from the geometry(if the geometry is simple enough) or you can use a local curvilinear coordinate system. You can get the 2 curvilinear local coordinate systems (one for each coil) following: https://www.comsol.com/blogs/using-curvilinear-coordinates/
Then you can select the right curvilinear coordinate system (in that picture will be shown where you have the global coordinate system).
In the curvilinear system the flow is always parallel to the "x" coordinate (from the top of my head, check this please :) ).
