I have limited experience with stable isotopes and I was wondering when you need to obtain tissue samples from fish then is is OK to store all the fish needed for analysis (n=100) in a freezer (up to 2-3 weeks) immediately after they are caught? Then unfreeze the fish, collect muscle tissue samples underneath the dorsal fin, dry the samples, grind and prepare for analysis.

Yes - this is perfectly acceptable and is how we sample almost all of the fish we analyze. We do this on research cruises throughout the year - freeze the fish at sea, and bring them back to the lab for analysis. We literally process thousands of fish this way. As long as they are kept frozen, you can analyze them months later with no problems. If you have any other questions, please let me know. Cheers!
