How to regenerate data reported in a research paper to do your own analyses for confirmation purpose? What are the key things to be included in the article to be able to regenerate that data?
Depends on the research mate - for example, I'm currently working on a study involving ethics and morality in a specific series of video games. I'll be using a survey (Qualtrics) to cultivate data sets from a variety of sources, then I'll code them into excel where I'll hopefully find some informative correlations.
Now.... I notice you're saying regenerate. Are you talking about duplication or was that a typo?
Yeah the word duplication can be used for that. For example authors report their findings in terms of Means, SD and other statistics. Is it possible to build data from those statistics to cross check their analyses. How do reviewers of the journals typically tackle with this situation. Or asking authors for the data is the only option?
Asking for data is one option. Lots of problems with the statistics reported can be found by things like the wrong degrees of freedom. You can often re-calculate things like t values from the descriptive tables.
