Sunil - in more recent times perhaps the best way to promote an individual's research is via the academic social media - such as Research Gate. The more sources that one uses (especially linked sources) - the wider the coverage. For instance, I use RG, Academia.Edu, Kudos (Grow Kudos), Mendeley, Google Scholar, Publons, ORCID, Researcher ID, LinkedIn - and then there is Twitter, Facebook etc.
At the same time - authors can attempt to publish in high impact journals - which usually results in wider citation and circulation and then there are more 'local' forums - such as conferences, symposia, working groups, industry etc.

Jus as Dean Whitehead, publishing in high IF journal ensures high visibility of your work. However, if you're unable to publish in these journals, you could manually disseminate your work through various media such as RG, Mendeley, LinkedIn, Google Scholar etc.
In addition to Dean Whitehead's comprehensive answer, I think that sending preprints, post-prints, and reprints by email to as many researchers in your field of research as possible would be useful.
I have only one addition to the excellent suggestions made by Dean Whitehead .
You could consider Zenodo:
https://zenodo.org/
A nice feature is that (like Researchgate) you can let Zenodo add a unique DOI number to other publications than journal papers (chapters, reports etc.) or to papers published in journals that do not give a DOI to papers.
Another good way is to publish some ideas from your reseach in a blog and/or social media venues who are interested in your ideas. Then, if people like it, and they are interested, they will search for your research
