I am thinking of starting a dissertation on a specific subject from safety and risk management in the GCC area, but it is not possible to get reliable accident data because of the local circumstances; someone told me that I could make my research approach explanatory! Would someone help explain the right approach, and how my dissertation would get a passing mark?
If you could not find data, you can compare the safety status from the standard document as ILO safety documents and in your particular site, then you can make the standard thesis.
u can propose a framework and propositions based upon literature review in this domain

Look for Sustainability and Safety annual reports of companies in the GCC area that are in the Stock Market. You can find numeric data from different business sectors that will allow you to make a number of correlations with risks that are typical of the type of business you chose. Good luck!

Thanks for your responses; I would like to draw your attention to another point: how to write a dissertation without accident data. What is the meaning of the explanatory approach of doing research where we do not require this kind of data?

I submitted my MSc dissertation (Security & Risk Management) last month; my research design was a qual, narrative literature review utilizing thematic analysis. Like you, the information dataset was limited so I opted for an exploratory study into lone actor threats & risk mitigation for events. I have attached the abstract, TOC and Chapter 1 Introduction which may provide a sense on how I approached my research. Hope that helps !
