I am preparing for a seminar on changes in water surface area from 1989 to 2017. So I am very fresher for this GEE software if you know the answer to the above question, let me because it will be very helpful for me.

1. First you should make a zip file of your shapefile (watershed or river basin shapefile).
2. Upload it from "Assets" to GEE and import it.
3. Then, search for Landsat data and import them.
4. Define your area based on your shp.
5. Set your Time filter and Image Row & Path.
6. Finally export them to drive.

Here is the link for extraction of WSA using NDWI:

Just replace your study area with that (draw polygon above your ROI).
Also, you can change the years for extraction.
Finally, your results will be in your google drive. (run the task).
