We have the fluorescent solid samples (dyes are embedded into cellulose, and others). How to measure the fluorescence quantum yield of the solid sample? Fluorescence quantum yield of solutions is calculated using the formula (See figure). It is unclear that the use as a standard (for solid samples). Can I use the solution as the standard?

I think abovementioned formula may be used for the solid samples, if experimental conditions would be the same as for standart solution (irradiation beam and detector mutual orientation, sample geometry, etc.). But you should know the refractive index of the solid matrix.

As Michael and Song pointed out already, an integrating sphere does the trick. The procedures can be found in an early publication: Advanced Materials 1997, 9, 230.
To measure the fluorescence yeald of solids is a delicate task. It is done using an interation sphere. There is a IUPAC Project to compare results from different labs that has been performed by A.M.Brouwer.

As said by Gustavo, the problem comes from the scattering of the light by the sample that will disturbe the measurement of the amount of light absorbed by the sample. If you can disperse your sample as nanoparticles in a liquid, you could apply the formula you mentioned.
