First I think you need to specify what is the objective of your research ... do you want to achieve:
a) a readiness assessment (before the introduction of I4.0)
b) an I4.0 Roadmap (for the introduction of I4.0)
c) a benchmarking tool/assessment (after the implementation of I4.0)
The concept of maturity levels can be used either in the readiness assessment as well as in the benchmarking/assessment after the introduction of I4.0
