The researchgate algorithm can recognize a few citation formats. It seems to work well with the format of some journals linked to Elsevier (for example, the citation format in the "Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology" works well with RG!

You can try to solve your problem as follows:

Step 1-) In the original file (docx of the manuscript or thesis) convert the citation format to the same one used in "Journal of Trace Elements and Medicine and Biology". I use endnote for the management of references. See: https://endnote.com/style_download/journal-of-trace-elements-in-medicine-and-biology

Step 2-) Copy the references in the new format and paste them into a new Word document; At the top of the new document write the title of your article, the authors, the abstract and the word "REFERENCES" and keep the references copied immediately below (Hint: avoid the two-column format);

Step 3-) Save and Export the file as PDF and upload in RG as private full-text;

Step 4) Wait for 10 minutes for the RG to scan the file and enter the references;

Step 5-) Check if the references now appear in RG website complete;

You can first delete your earlier files from RG. Then you can make the necessary changes with your Thesis/Project. Once you have completed the work, you can again upload your files. This process will help you to avoid duplication in your entry list.

The file I uploaded already posses proper list of reference. The problem is that RG system do not recognise it and do not shows that in metadata. That is the problem I intend to fix.

I think the language you have mentioned is written in Polish, for which the readers are restricted.That could be the problem in recognition & citations.

It's not an issue at all. RG just do not index bibliography from the file. That what we want to solve here. I think that idea of Thomas is grate. To upload file with bibliography  the same way as we upload supplementary materials is grate idea.

It's simple and easy to implement.

Have you tried it @Przemyslaw Dominik Gacia? Does it have to be in bibtex format? Can I upload references from word or pdf as a supplementary material?

No One does. This functionality does not exist yet.

We hor ReaserchGate will finally add it. We are waiting for it.

Same here.I actually include a very standard bibliography in the technical report that I recently uploaded. The report is in English. I am still hoping that Researchgate will pick up the references at some point, and I will report the process under a similar question that I asked in the forum yesterday.

Three steps to add the missing self-citation into your ResearchGate (RG)

When you have a missing self-citation problem because there are no references with your publication or there is a less number of references in that publication (e.g., your references list in your article is 40 but appear 20 in RG, you need to do the following steps to solve this problem:

1) Go to your article that you want to add the references to it and remove the full-text from publication page (if you do not upload the article, skip this point)

2) Download the article (publisher’s version/PDF) from the publisher’s website.

3) Go to Add new researchàPublished research and upload your article (publisher’s version) as private file* (if your article is not open access) and as a public file (if your article is open access), you can check the copyright for any journal using this link

When you done these steps, refresh the page or log out/in to see the changes (you will see that the number of references increases directly and your self-citation will appear in next 24-hour update).

You need to repeat these steps for each article separately.
