there are two method foe stabilization of RNA

1-chemical method : including RNAlater and RNAprotect

2-physical method :low temperature. like refrigeration and liquid nitrogen where save under 4 c for month and under -20 for infinity

i think the second method is lower cost

ya thanks DR. Ghassan, yes I know that snap freezing in liquid nitrogen and keeping at (-80 C or -20) can protect RNA. But at field condition it is not always possible to carry a canister of Liquid nitrogen and therefore stabilizing solution is required which is available commercially by different Biotech company (RNAlater/RNA protect) but these items are very costly, particularly when u have to keep a quantity of tissue samples. I came to know that high concentration of Ammonium sulfate at ph 7 is the main component of such solution. And I like to know the complete composition so that I can prepare it in my lab at low cost. Its not that I expect that would be standard like those of commercial brands but at least it might serve my purpose. Can you help me with that?

With brain homogenate supernatant. it is easy, quite cheep. Very stable even at room temperature (for RNA it's better at +4°C).

RNAprotect comes in two different versions: one for eukaryotic cells (RNAprotect Cell reagent), and one for prokaryotic cells (RNAprotect Bacterial reagent).According to safety data sheet and other sources by Qiagen, it seems that the compositions of the products are the following:

RNAprotect Bacteria Reagent:

• 4% (w/v) Tetradecyl-trimethyl-ammonium bromide (TTAB)
• 200 mM tartaric acid
• NaOH to pH 4

RNAprotect Cell Reagent:

• 4% (w/v) Tetradecyl-trimethyl-ammonium oxalate (TTAO)
• pH 6-7
