I am planning to develop a mixed-effect model where a categorical variable immigration status with three categories: Non-immigrants, recent immigrants, and long-residing immigrants will be considered and used to develop a random slope. The second level variable is the province of residence (10 provinces). The dependent variable is the positive mental health scale. My question is if I use a categorical variable and develop a random slope for a regional level, how can I interpret the result? Can you suggest me some references? Thank you.
