Hello everyone, Is there any Python or Matlab code for conversion of NASA SMAP HDF5 L3/L4 products to GeoTIFF or netCDF formats?
I tried to install HDFEOS to GeoTIFF Conversion Tool (HEG) but it doesn’t work.
I want to convert h5 to GeoTIFF or netCDF .
You can write a GeoTIFF file using function geotiffwrite (https://www.mathworks.com/help/map/ref/geotiffwrite.html) or write a NetCDF file using function ncwrite (https://www.mathworks.com/help/matlab/ref/ncwrite.html).
you can also use the GDAL libraries for this task:
for the full stack
gdal_translate -of GTiff hdf_file.hdf output.tif
or in the case of sub-datasets
gdal_translate -of GTiff 'hdf_file.hdf:sub-dataset' output.tif

I suggest to use nasa earth data services instead, you can convert all the file to your desired format, subset the data and choose just the layers that you want before ordering the product and no matter how large the datset is it will do the job in a matter of second, just take a look at the attached file.

overall, it is better to download SMAP SM data in tiff format from NASA.
This is a good video showing how to extract data from a hdf layer into ArcGIS. The video shows extracting MODIS LSTs, but the same method can be used for other hdf files. To work with multiple files, you may employ an ArcGIS model (iterate raster).
