So I have two variables X and Y and according to the scatterplot, they are not linear. They do not show a linear relationship. The next step, I find in several statistics website is using nonlinear regression in SPSS. Can anyone explain to me, in simple steps if possible, about how nonlinear regression works in SPSS? And how to use it effectively? It seems very complicated to me.

3. Define the proposed equation in the ( model expression box), you can use quadratic or exponential or ... from the function group, you have to write the parameters as
A*EXP( X)
4. Define the parameter(s), with expected starting value(s).

Please note that linearity in regression refers to coefficients. You can still have a curve in linear regression. See "polynomial linear regression."
