The driven element is placed at the center with two parasitic patches on each side of the driven element.
Coupling is one of the important parameter for any system, because without proper coupling, reflection is occurred due impedance mismatching. So, the parameters which is responsible for proper coupling such as inductance, capacitance and resistance should be in resonating condition. design the couple circuit first whatever you're going to take using passive parameters and derive expression for impedance matching as like transmission line with the help equivalent circuit diagram.
In this design, you need to increase the coupling by placing the parasitic elements nearer to the driven one.
If only one element has a port attached to it I cannot see a way to get a coupling number (That´be Sij) - only if all of them have ports.
A parasitic patch array means a single driven element with multiple parasites placed in proximity of it. mutual coupling is the appearance of EM energy from port j to port i, Sij . For single port system its not so easy to find mutual coupling my the traditional method.By changing the position of the parasites you can change the input impedance of the antenna because of the changing coupling between the elements.
Thank You everyone for useful comments. I am using HFSS for antenna simulation. If I define the ports at parasitic elements, without any excitation and then extract the mutual coupling parameters. Whether this method is proper to find mutual coupling parameters and predict the overall parasitic antenna array radiation pattern, by multiplying element pattern with the array factor.
Dear Vikas Khainar, i am not sure about how u can define a port in HFSS without excitation, because even if you make the port excitation signal zero 0 still you will get a reflection coefficient at that port. If you know some way of how to define a port in HFSS without excitation then please share it with me. i am interested to know this. Thanks in advance
Hello Jamal. I have made scaling factor zero for the parasitic ports. The theoretical model for calculation of AF is provided in the following paper: A Microstrip Patch Electronically Steerable Parasitic Array Radiator (ESPAR) Antenna With Reactance-Tuned Coupling and Maintained Resonance. In the paper, the authors mentioned that ports are defined at the parasitic element microstrip lines to facilitate data extraction. I am also trying to extract Z parameters in my design to compare the results. Can you please suggest some technique to do this task.
