We would like to see the metallographic structure about 7075 aluminum alloy, could anyone please tell me whether we have other etching solution except Keller solution to help observing the microstructure of this alloy?
For Aluminum alloy, Keller's reagent and Kroll's reagent are preferred, however both uses HF in their composition. The Poulton's reagent is also an option. If you do not wish to use HF, you may try electrolytic etching using barker's reagent. A solution of 10% H3PO4 will also be useful for grain boundaries. However, Keller's reagent and Modified Poulton's etchant are always best option.
Thank you very much for your great [email protected]. But could you please tell me whether the modified Poulton's etchant is the barker's reagent you mentioned? Are them the same one?
