I wonder if someone who is experienced in high quality drawings can share me on how to draw publication quality figures in general like path diagram in structural equation modeling and other figures which shows soil and water uptake by plant roots etc.
While packages such as Tetrad can make path diagrams from SEM models, I've found it easiest just to draw them in PowerPoint and manually arrange the variables and path arrows to try to minimize the clutter. To convey visually the sign and size of path coefficients, you can simply use different dash types or colors for positive vs. negative coefficients and set the point thickness of the arrows proportional to the coefficient values.
