Is there any open library of designs for making diagrams of optical setups?
For instance, I've found this:

But it's focused more to gravitational waves type of experiments; for microscopy, it doesn't even have an objective...
Just wondering before embarking into expanding it ;)
You can draw your setup using LaTeX with several PSTricks packages:
- pst-optexp - for beam and fiber optics
- pst-optic - for ray optics
Many components are predefined and can be connected automatically, but you need to write some code. It is not simple drag & drop.

didn't know pst-optexp, it looks neat, but I guess it takes a really long time to be proficient at it ;)
You can try OptGeo.
Not a "professional" software (only simple components such as lenses, parabolic mirrors, etc). But it's free and open source, no learning curve, exports to JPG, PNG and PS. Just works when you need a simple diagram...
The download page is in French but the software does have English language (see attached screenshot)
