im working with aluminum powder.quantity im using is 30 grams. i intend to compact this powder and make tensile specimens according to ASTM B925-03. i want to ask that this much quantity of powder will be sufficient for making specimens...should i increase powder quantity from 30 grams. or is these any specimen which is small enough for 30 grams of metal powder.
If you want to get the % metal loading on the surface of your powder, then you can try EDX technique
I thought about this a little more. You should be able to determine it if you knew what your final sintered densities are. If you assume you get 100 % dense then 1 x 1 x 7.5 = 7.5 cm^3. Assuming a density of 2.7 g/cm^3 for Al (yours may be slightly different) you will need 20 g at the minimum to produce the initial bar to be machined. It would seem that 30 g is sufficient as the extra would also give you some room to machine a little off each side to square up the bar prior to producing a tensile specimen.
Are you making a new die for this purpose or will you be using one you already have. That might be more the limiting factor in the amount of powder you need to make a 10mm x 10mm square bar.
i have chosen sub size specimen and i aim to achieve a cylindrical part with a diameter of 12 mm and length 62 mm. plz find attachment and look for specimen 3.
gauge length = 24, diameter = 6, radius of fillet =6, reduced section length = 30 and i have kept overall length = 62 mm and outer dia =10 mm
moreover, as per calculation with density 0.0027g/mm3 (2.7g/cm3) and volume of part 7125 mm cube, mass comes out to be around 19.23 g which is an approximate.
