At what development stage are you? You say you use embedded C... what platform, what libraries are available? Most certainly you would need a library for direct mySQL access... or, you can simplify it by some basic api (in local network, without any remote access) - of course, if you embedded environment has network stack implemented...

Sensor data (RFID) is already read and you already have plain data (as a variable in your C...) that you would like to store to mySQL or you are missing that par too? What is the idea behind the embeded system - it is rack-related (one rack - one system, or you have a system thath gets input data from many rack/RFID readers)? Do you have some expectations on RFID data arrival/frequency - do you need multithreading and a kind of queing or it is "sparse" and complete processing and storing to mySQL is done synchronously (meaning there is no way that the same "event" happens simultaneosly on the same embeded system -- mySQL shall handle simultaneous inserts from differend embeded systems...)

There are so many questions, I'm actually not sure about the design of your system :-)
