I am conducting research on culture shock. My research question is:
"Does culture shock affect the second language learning outcome (Marks) of Arab Chinese language learners in China? If so, what aspects of second language (such as listening, speaking, reading, writing, etc.) are mainly affected by culture shock?"
The participants of my study are the Chinese language diploma students who have completed one year of their study in China. I am confused which marks should I use for the analysis. Because according to Oberg's culture shock theory, people experience culture shock at the second stage (Crisis stage, Normally 3-6 Months). Should I ask the participants what was their level of culture shock during the crisis stage (3-6 Months) and what was their GPA at that point. Or should I ask their marks independent of the time (e.g at arrival or at the end of their study period)?
